The Indifference of Stars

image

distant suns care not what becomes of you and i
the spark of our lives is a brief flare in the millennia of a star’s burning
they will shine on long after we have faded from our own night sky

yet there is no room for despair
another life awaits
and though briefly burning here we are precious
so burn bright
and disregard the indifference of stars

Words are stars

image

I could go back to sleep
but the words come.
They are my alarm clock.

They wake me from my slumber,
each letter glimmering like a star
in the black sky of my eyelids.

I reach up,
pull them down one by one,
reverse the negative,
until my white page is covered
with a thousand dark suns.
