Monk With New Habit

image

i know where i want to go
i can see the way so clear
that is not the issue
i have never been one who lacks vision
rather seeing the destination in the far off distance mocks me and serves to remind me of how so little progress i seem to be making
a lifetime of bad habits encumber me
i have not yet it seems learned the wisdom of incremental change
of small steps
of watching where i place each foot
of mindfulness to those stray thoughts in the moment
to touch each thread of what i am putting on until i and this new habit are one

Three Thoughts

Not everything in your brain is true.

Some thoughts should not be put into action.

Beliefs are only intentions unless they are acted upon.

Response To Sermon

image

Until each of us personally rejects the notion that some deserve exactly what they get, we will continue to live in a broken and diseased society.

Our very unwillingness to leave the judgement up to God is the source of the pestilence among us and masks our reluctance to commit ourselves to true healing action.

For God has said, “I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy.”

The Rhythm of the Nouns

image

In my life I have a tendency to impose my will on things, and in so doing, I have accomplished much.
But I do not feel like I belong.

The rhythm of the nouns tells me that all things have their pace, there for me to find and step into, if I have the courage and sense enough to try.

Second Sight

image

look up
but do not forget to look around
see beauty
where it cannot be found
touch the sky
but embrace the ground
speak truth
but let love rule the sound
listen loudly
turn you inner volume down
look up
but do not forget to look around

Power and Powerlessness

image

Who or what determines my greatness?

Power and powerlessness are mutually exclusive.

Is power,
personal power,
being great,
famous,
or
consciousness
raising?

Follow my call?!
rather than the path to fame (but could be the same),
awareness=power

Self-control is greater than power over worldly affairs.

Retreat Notes November 1996

image

Not everything revolves around me.

The only world I can really change is the small sphere called myself, within, and the places and people I touch daily.

Act from the depths of my heart,
building relationships rather than telling people to f*** off.

What finger(s) do I give to the annoying ones?

Do not be
dismayed
when you
feel lost
for it is
in that
moment
that someone
may ask
you for
directions.

Shades

When walking
in the valley
of shadows,
never forget
that shadows
can only
exist in the
presence
of the light.
