Fall WAter by KMLS

Fall WAter by KMLS

stand in the quiet
dead tree creaking above like the
mast of some great ship
drifting by on the river

take me, take me

across the water comes the slap slap of a
raccoon and supper washed clean
eating by the river

fill me, fill me

eye travels to distant shore
on up the slope the white rocks, trees
to the sky, stars, sparks
moving by on the river

carry me, carry me

one side comes the wind shallow water
the other runs the highway whine of a semi
backdrop to this quiet
the roar of silence like a wall
round this river

cover me, cover me

reminder still
what awaits my return
as i step from the woods into the yellow
creaking porch
door opened to the glaring screen
the river still
still running on behind me
