Tithe of Humanity

cast adrift by circumstance
forced to take another chance
i am the offering to the capitalist dance

slave to this ship upon an empty sea
barred from entering your country
i am the price for affordability

tossed aside with nary a glance
invisible to your monetary trance
i am the meek with no inheritance

i am the millstone around the neck of thee
i am the drowning and you with me
i am the coins in your hand i will never see

I am the tithe of humanity

(Note: According to the latest issue of Time magazine, there are currently 50 million displaced people in the world, the most since World War II. That is app. 1/10 of the world’s population. Hence the title).
